FLASS scholars gain worldwide acclaim for their distinguished academic works

 

The continuous efforts of our FLASS scholars have won them internationally prestigious awards and industry acclaims. Earlier this year, Research.com, a leading academic platform for researchers, released the 2022 Edition of its ranking for the world’s top 1,000 scientists. According to the latest survey conducted by the platform, Professor Li Wai-keung, Dean of FLASS and Research Chair Professor of Data Science from the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology, is ranked 84th in China and 1,779th in the world in the field of Mathematics. As a renowned statistics scholar, Professor Li has a broad range of research interests, including time series analysis, financial econometrics, financial risk management, big data analytics and environmetrics.

Dr Eddie Cheng Wai-lun, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences, is ranked 40th in China and 992nd in the world in the field of Business and Management. Dr Cheng has a wide range of research interests including transfer of training, research methods and analyses, teaching and learning, construction economics, and project management.

The top scientists ranking is determined by a meticulous examination of 166,880 scientists on Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Graph. In the field of Mathematics, over 3,700 profiles were examined, while roughly 6,000 profiles were reviewed for the discipline of Business and Management.

Separately, Professor Wong Ming-hung, Advisor (Environmental Science) at the Department of Science and Environmental Studies, has been elected a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) in recognition of his sustained outstanding contributions to environmental science. EASA is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organisation committed to promoting scientific and societal progress. It boasts more than 30 Nobel laureates among its 2,000 members.

In terms of career-long citation impact within the world’s top 2% scientists list published by Stanford University in 2021 and 2022, Professor Wong ranked in sixth place. He was also regarded by Stanford University as one of the top Chinese scientists globally in environmental science.
